The Nations Cup video I produced was a very short video to promote the 3 day soccer tournament in Richmond BC. The video needed to be quite short in length and capture the viewers attention without taking much of their time. I needed to be upbeat and I little different with a little much while still describing the tournament for the viewer. I had recently done the branding some ads for the tournament committee so I already had a feel for what the goals and atmosphere of the tournament was. I developed an idea which I then storyboarded taking into account the resources I had available to be including, actors, graphic assets or B-Roll, time to do the project as well as my video production skills.
Executing my plan was some what of a challenging task as I had limited resources. I used myself as an actor. As a student at BCIT I had access to a green screen room to shoot my video. There wasn’t much B-roll video to use that I had access to so I used still frames. I was able to produce the video for virtually no cost, just my personal man-hours.
The video was assembled in Adobe After Effects using Keylight to extract myself from the green screen, colour correction methods, transition effects, motion blurs, masking, rotoscoping and other effects to manipulate the elements to get the desired effect and communicate my message effectively. I adjusted the video with sound in Adobe Audition, and output the final video in Adobe Premiere.
The committee from Nations Cup were quite impressed. With no budget at all I was able to produce a product that fulfilled the wants and told their story in a handful of seconds. They received some great feedback about the video and I look forward to working with them in future years. After showing other video professionals the work there were a few things that were brought to my attention that I could improve on but overall I think the projects was a great success and it showed my the power of After Effects. From this project I take a way greater understanding and passion for the software and look forward to working on other great After Effects projects.
