Concept

The objective behind this project was to create a promotional package for a fictional charitable organization done as a BCIT class assignment. The criteria for the projects was to design 3 promotional items as well as a poster promoting an event. I chose to create a grass root soccer program as my charitable organization, as I have a great passion for the sport and thought I would enjoy designing something around the concept of soccer. Through doing a number a sketches and playing with word association I was able to develop a logo and place that logo on different promotion items. I also used thumbnails and sketches to develop different layouts for the poster and an event program. From there I decided on a colour scheme and fine tuned the items with roughs before finally starting the production end of the process.

Execution

To produce the project I needed to overcome a few challenges including creating a 3D rendering of a water bottle, mapping a label on the bottle as well as a t-shirt, adjusting photos with lighting and colour filers and using perspective, shadows and other photoshop techniques to mock up promotional shots of the fictitious promo items. The logo was created in Illustrator with font that I chose and manipulated slightly to get the desired effect from my roughs. The photos were colour corrected and then adjusted in photoshop using adjustment layers and filters. The Program was put to gather in InDesign then manipulated in photoshop to show perspective. The bottle was the most challenging piece of the project as it was created from scratch in photoshop using 3D lathe, then adjusted using lighting and opacity mapping then finally the label was added in a mapped layer. The poster was then assembled in Indesign and output in CMYK as a printed poster.

Follow up

After reviewing the project I think I was able to achieve all of the criteria for the project. The assignment received a perfect mark and glowing reviews from the instructor. I was able to learn new 3D photoshop skills as well as polish many of my existing skills. Personally, as with all my projects, I was able to take some time away from this project and more objectively look at what I could do better in the future. Although happy with my design and execution of the project, I now see ways to improve my design in projects moving forward as well as how to more efficiently execute techniques to achieve similar or better results.
